What is Intellectual Property?

Intellectual property refers to the legal rights of individuals or businesses over the products of their mental creativity, such as ideas, innovations, works of art, inventions, trademarks, designs, etc. These rights recognize the right of creators or owners to protect their work and to make economic profit from these works.

Categories

  • Industrial Property Rights: Rights used in industrial areas such as patents, trademarks, designs and geographical indications.
  • Copyrights: Covers the protection of creative works such as artistic, literary and scientific works.

The Importance of Intellectual Property

Beggining

Idea Identification and Initial Evaluation: The potential of the idea developed by the academician or student is evaluated.

 

Property Registration

The idea is recorded on the TTO's standard notification forms. A patent search is conducted.

 

Development

A development plan is created. Support is received and a patent application is made.

 

Marketing

Market research is conducted and licensing agreements are prepared.

 

Making a Deal or Archiving

  • License Agreements: License agreements are prepared for your idea to be produced or sold by a company.
  • Idea Archive: Ideas that are not licensed are stored in the university's intellectual property archive. These ideas will be re-evaluated when new opportunities arise in the future.
